Instead of sharing one in-depth story from this past week, I thought I'd share 7 interesting tidbits.

1. Best Listen

A good friend just gave me a Sonos Roam as a Christmas gift. We've been playing Fleetwood Mac - Dreamin' on repeat.

Now all I need is a skateboard and some Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice.

2. Best Watch

Dia's mom is super into Thrillers so I rewatched Captain Phillips with her. Tom Hanks is so Tom Hanks. Too fricken good.

3. Best Read

I'm currently enjoying a book called, Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. I'm only a few chapters in but this TRUE story is nuts. It's about a bunch of dudes in the early 1900s that tried to sail through Antarctica. šŸ¤Æ

Easily wins the award for the best first chapter I've ever read.

4. Best Conversation

Dia's mom and I went out for lunch this week after getting our Flu Shots together. We left the apartment at 10:45 and didn't get back til 2:00.

Admittedly, one reason why lunch took so long is because my Spanish is so broken. But she's very patient with me. Like when I have to ask Siri, "How do you say foreclosure or eviction in Spanish?"

We talked about everything: Business, Family, Health, Relationships, the Kids, etc. She's had quite the life, so I'm always trying to get advice from her.

5. Best Thought

I watched this 44-minute life update by Ali Abdaal on YouTube the other day.

About halfway through he said something I needed to hear - It's OK to leave money on the table.

In 2024, I'm likely going to move forward with a difficult decision I've been putting off. All signs point to me exiting a long-term partnership that's been lucrative but stressful.

Not only am I leaving future money on the table, but it'll cost me a pretty penny in the short term: Prepayment penalty fees, Depreciation Recapture, Capital Gains Taxes, etc.

6. Best Purchase

I've been sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees for as long as I can remember.

Dia got targeted by this Luna Memory Foam Knee Pillow, and we ended up buying two because of the brand name. Pretty legit. šŸ‘Œ

7. Best Moment

Personal Finance
Personal Finance

We did an all-day in-person meetup with the members of our real estate investing mastermind this past Thursday.

Since it's the end of the year and all of us are focused on getting our books in order, reducing taxable income, and everything else Personal Finance - I thought it would be helpful if I shared my system.

We went through 3 main things:

  1. My Money Waterfall - the order in which our family's money flows
  2. My Preferred Accounts - the specific checking, saving, credit, & investing accounts we use.
  3. My Tracking Tool - how I set it up and how I use it.

In my opinion, personal finance should be extremely boring if done right.

It comes down to fighting for simplicity & leveraging automation: maintaining "good" personal finance should be easier than maintaining "good" personal hygiene.
